Airports

 

There is widespread use of commercial and private airplanes throughout California. The state ranks first among the states in the number of registered civil aircraft and third, behind Texas and Illinois, in the number of airports and airfields, having 546 in 1997. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego are served by some of the busiest airports in the country.
